Shaun Murphy's claim
Shaun Murphy claims to have done a 147 break, nine-darter and a hole-in-one. How close have you gone?

Snooker best break 46, still aiming at the elusive 50 break

Golf. maybe 4-5 feet from a par 3 pin. Have only ever had a small handful of birdies in 30+ years

Darts Threw one 180 in 1996 and have had an 83 finish with two darts !!

Re: Shaun Murphy's claim
I've often discussed with MATES what's the harder of all 3.

My order of most difficult to most easiest.

147
9 darter
Hole in 1

I think the hole in 1 can be fluked, whereas the other 2 are clearly all about your skill level and with 36 shots for the 147, you've' got more chances of making a mistake.

... I've achieved none of them, by the way!

75 Snooker break
180 a few times at darts we had a board in our office in London Docks.
Inches from hole in one but got one on the practise area at Frinton ;-)

My sister In-Law got a hole in one the first time on a Golf course !!!!!

it's why Ronnie's five minutes, 8 second 147 is the greatest sporting feat I've ever seen. genius

I achieved a break of 16 once in snooker. So nearly 17 too...

Hole In 1; Check.. Scabbed a 7 iron up a short par 3, scuttled across the green, hit the pin and dropped. Not sure that it ever got more than 1ft off the deck.

147; No, but have done 2 8-Ball straight clearance on a Pool table. Not the same I know, but I was chuffed at the time.

9 Darter; Not a chance, just happy if all three arrows go in the board!

Re: Shaun Murphy's claim
Done a hole in one on the old chip and putt course in Valentines Park a couple of times

Darts I've had a few 180's but never a nine darter

I think my highest break in snooker was in the 50's (not 1950's) ;-), I'd be lucky to see the other end of the table, board or hole nowadays though

Re: Shaun Murphy's claim
Snooker - Did a 24-hour snooker marathon for charity with a mate when I was 17 (didn't realise most did such things with about 8 players!) and a measly 33 is my top break. Played pool for Sussex and snooker is so much more difficult.

Golf - Hit the flag on a par 3 once and it was a few inches away. Mate of mine hit two holes in one in a week on two different courses when we were playing a few years ago. Two tough par 3's and he never saw either go in!

Darts- Claim to fame was I hit a 180 once. Sadly, I only needed 133!

Re: Shaun Murphy's claim
I have to add I did make two table clearances in a single pool match A v B team against a now good mate of mine back in the 80's. He broke, I cleared up. I broke and cleared up. 2-0 and he didn't speak to me for weeks! Also beat an England player and he stormed out, so I'm not totally useless!

The worst thing about this is it will now become a THING and there'll be cunts trying to out do each other for the sake of the thing. It would have been better if he'd never mentioned it.

Re: Shaun Murphy's claim
Golf - Think I have only had about 5 or 6 pars my whole life never alone a hole in one.... SHIT SPORT

Snooker - Dunno... potted the blue, pink and black once... so 18 is my top break.... SHIT SPORT

Darts - Dunno... think I've hit treble 20 once... so probably 62... SHIT SPORT

I wonder if Shaun Murphy has kicked as many shins as I have in football... or smacked as many boundaries in cricket as I have... or dummied as many flankers as I have in Rugby.... you know... proper Sports

Re: Shaun Murphy's claim
Totally agree with the sentiment. All need skill, but a hole in one can be fluked, and it's only one stroke.

Nine darter requires nine perfect shots rather than one perfect or lucky one. I've hit a few 180s in my life but I'm not very good at darts. Had a board at home for a couple of years. I don't think you can fluke a 9 darter.

147, well that's in another league. 36 perfect shots in a row just to pocket the balls, but factor in cueball control and developing the table. It's not like it's set up for you and you just pocket them. Extraordinary skill required. I think my highest ever break is 25 and they were all relatively easy shots to make given how the balls were lying.

TM- It's right up there isn't it. The 147 is really underappreciated as an accomplishment. Not sure there's even anything else comparable in sport.

Re: Shaun Murphy's claim
147 definitely the hardest

I would say a 9 darter is potentially easier than a hole in one...... but then a hole in one you can fluke

But think darts requires least amount of skill out of the 3 of them

I once had a frame of snooker where i was trailing 8-7 after the 15 reds had been taken care of.

I have to say I'm a bit envious that both of you managed to avoid a foul.

Last summer I baggef 2 hole in ones during the same round of golf.

Guess i should add that this rare act of sporting brilliance took place at adventure island in Southend.

Hahaha! it's quite rare when I'm playing that the second slider gets troubled too much unless the fouls start to rack up...
